Make A Lens On Squidoo To Boost Your Internet Marketing

July 21st, 2009 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

Squidoo has been part of the new Web 2.0 category of internet marketing tools since 2005. Squidoo allows an author to create a lens, a one page website, which focuses on any subject for free. A particular lens can draw information from numerous sources and place it all on one page for easy viewing and reading.
A lens maker can create numerous lenses on a subject, focusing attention on a different aspect of the subject with each lens. On the other had, a lens maker can make numerous lenses that cover many different topics, reflecting the lens makers’ different interests and expertise.
Internet Marketing
One of the many good uses for Squidoo lenses is to use the lens as part of an overall internet marketing strategy. One or more good lenses can help to bring attention, traffic, and credibility to a product or business by providing valuable information and resources. Additionally, the lens can help to establish the author as an expert in their field and a person whose advice should be taken seriously.
The single page websites that Squidoo allows an author to create are called lenses because the finished website focuses on a single subject or idea. This focused attention on a subject is very attractive to users of the internet who are constantly searching for answers to questions or problems. The internet search engines whose job it is to find good, focused websites that will answer the questions or problems are attracted to the lenses.
Therefore, the use of Squidoo lenses has become a valuable internet resource for building and marketing a business.
Basic Modules
There are numerous tools available on Squidoo to build a lens. Most of these tools are called modules. The modules create separate sections on the overall web page. Other tools available on Squidoo include the author’s biographical area, a keyword list called tags, the lens title or headline, a lensroll, and RSS subscription for readers.
One of the basic modules allows the author to write short articles about various aspects of the lens’s subject. Another basic module makes it easy to list and describe appropriate links to offsite information that complements the subject of the lens. For internet marketing purposes the author can use these basic modules to link to their own websites, thereby driving traffic to their own business.
Other basic modules provide links to commercial internet resources such as eBay, Amazon, Starbucks, CompUSA, and many other businesses where the reader can be directed to the author’s own merchandise offerings or to merchandise and information that supports the author’s own business. These modules can also provide some income, as the lens maker earns a small percentage of the sales of merchandise on these commercial websites.
Interactive Modules
Many modules are interactive in nature, which is why Squidoo is considered to be part of the new Web 2.0 category of interactive websites. Readers can respond to many of the modules, adding their own favorites to certain categories. For example, readers can add their favorite YouTube videos to the list of videos on the lens or add their favorite pictures to the lens’s list. Additionally, readers can add their favorite links to a list of links that the author has provided on the lens, or they can add their comments or responses to questions asked by the lens’s author. One of the favorite interactive modules is the voting module where readers can vote on a question by the lens’s author or vote on a listing of favorite resources.
All of the interactive modules have the effect of creating new content for the lens. The benefit to the lens maker is that the new lens content makes their lens more searchable by the many internet search engines. This is an obvious boost to the lens maker’s overall internet marketing strategy.
Syndicated Content Modules
Another category of modules is that of syndicated content that is drawn from other websites. For example, if the lens maker has a blog on the same subject as his lens, he can have the blog posts automatically directed to the lens each time he creates a new blog post. Other types of syndicated content include articles from magazines and newspapers.
The lens maker can automatically draw content related to the subject of the lens each time a new article appears in the specified periodicals. Similar to reader interactivity, this constantly changing syndicated content refreshes the lens on a regular basis, making it more attractive to the internet search engines and giving a boost to the lens maker’s internet marketing efforts.
Creating a Squidoo lens can be fun as well as wise. It is fun because the tools produce a lens with a wide range of variety and creativity. And it is wise because the lens will help the lens maker market their business more successfully.

Lobster – An Impressive and Delicious Species

July 21st, 2009 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

You will feel like a King when eating fresh lobster and you never forget your first taste. Lobster is a delicacy and there are many ways to prepare and enjoy it.
Before heading out and buying one, you should learn a bit about what exactly a lobster is, how to prepare and serve it and where to buy it from.
A lobster is part of the marine species of crustaceans. You get them in different varieties, some with claws and others without. Some clawless ones include slipper lobsters, spiny lobsters and squat lobsters. Each has a slightly different taste and they look different too. Prices vary depending on the type of lobster you get.
Some of the best known and most popular types are the clawed lobster, the reef lobster and freshwater crawfish, which are found in a lot of southern and Creole recipes.
If you are a food lover, seafood is probably on your repertoire of favorite foods, including lobster. Lobster has often been referred to as the “king of seafood” and rightly so. The lobster is a regal looking creature both in the sea and on the plate, and definitely packed with plenty of flavor. And as with any royalty, lobster does not come cheap.
The best prices (and usually the nicest, freshest lobster too) can be found in coastal regions and fishing villages. If you are far from the sea, the price will be higher. On average, a pound of lobster costs between $7.95 and $29.95, depending on the shop and its location.
If you plan to spend that much on a meal, it is very important that you know how to prepare and cook the lobster. It might seem daunting because it is a new food and cost a lot but it is quite easy to prepare lobster. You should buy one lobster per person, as a general rule. Some fishmongers offer to steam the lobster before you go home with it but it is best to take the lobster home live if you can because the taste will be fresher.
When you have grilled, boiled or steamed your lobster, you can choose a simple recipe to use it in. One way is to serve the lobster with a bib, some butter and lemon to squeeze over it.
Simple recipes tend to be the best with lobster because it has its own special taste and too many frills will detract from that. If you have any left over (unlikely but possible nonetheless!) you can take the shell off and make a po’boy sandwich or a lobster salad for the following day.
Remember you don’t need to know anything about gourmet food to enjoy a delicious dish like lobster. You need to understand where to buy it, how to prepare it and get hold of a basic lobster recipe. This will definitely result in a meal to remember. If you have never tried it, why not visit your local seafood restaurant and order some? The delectable flavor will make you want to buy and cook some yourself the next time!

Metal Roofing Materials: The Pros And Cons Of Each Type

July 21st, 2009 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

Metals come in different compositions and forms. They serve different purposes that fit their qualities, including metal roofing. The more popular metals for roofing include steel, aluminum, copper and alloys. Their characteristics and usefulness will be discussed in this article.
1. Steel. Plain steel as a roofing material has been the most conventional choice in roofing. It is usually coated and/or painted for protection against corrosion. Steel is also a very sturdy metal.
The most commonly used compounds to protect steel are zinc, epoxy primer, and acrylic. These are also what make steel metal roofing system colorful and attractive. But aside from its looks, the durability that steels possess is enough reason to make it applicable not only to regular homes but for commercial establishments as well.
Because of its durability, steel roofing is not only popular among residential structures but also with commercial establishments. The stainless steel is also a popular choice. Although it is a tad more expensive, people still opt for this type of metal. It is absolutely non-corrosive. Stainless steel roofs are meant to last as long as you want them to last.
2. Aluminum. Aside from steel, aluminum is also a metal roofing material that is very common today. Unlike steel, aluminum is extremely lightweight. And primarily because of this feature, this type of material is applicable only on residential applications. It cannot be used for industrial sites because it can’t provide as much protection as its counterparts.
Architects find it easier to do even the very complex designs that you want with aluminum because it is also lightweight. Another advantage of using aluminum is that it is corrosion-resistant. One just has to look for the paint color that you want. With the right choice of coating, you not only achieve protection from rust but you also get your desired aesthetic beauty. Roof paint and coating that you normally use for steel are also the same ones that you use with aluminum.
3. Copper. More people are convinced though, that copper is the best choice when it comes to metal roofing. Architects and construction experts favor using copper because of it does not rust nor peel. It does not need any type of coating to protect it from corrosion. It also has that natural red hue that makes it ready for installation even without a paint job. Copper, for a lot of people, is the superior material for any metal roofing requirement.
The only disadvantage of using copper for your roofing requirement is its hefty cost. Although some would justify that this disadvantage will even out over the years if you take into account maintenance, repairs, and repainting. Copper is also soft that it is easy to install. Also because of this, it is able to transform itself into a verdigris patina through time. This makes it even more attractive when its other metal counterparts are already worn out.
4. Alloys. Alloys are a combination of one or two metals. This type of material is especially formulated to attain the desired strength, durability, and toughness of a metal to be used as a roofing system. And more often than not, its ability to weather all types of conditions is added into the equation. Alloys can be considered a customized type of metal roofing material. Being so, its cost depends entirely on the material being used. Generally though, this type of roofing material can also be pricey.
These are the different metal roofing materials available in the market today. Which one of them to pick will depend upon your individual needs as a homebuilder. Just remember to choose according to your budget, your preference, and all the resources you have. If you do so, you’ll never go wrong.

Adopt A Shelter Dog

July 20th, 2009 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

You can find a good companion in a dog from a shelter. You first need to clarify what traits you want in your new dog, as well as evaluate what kind of home you can provide.
A Compatible Dog
Most dogs available for adoption at a shelter are adult dogs. I am going to inform you about them because they are easier to care for than a puppy; and there are so many staying in shelters that need homes. If the dog will live inside pick one that is housebroken. That is something you couldn’t find in a puppy. As far as intelligence, trainability and friendliness there appears to be no difference between males and females. Males, however, tend to be more territorial. They mark and defend territory, though neutering helps this behavior. Medium to large dogs are alway more plentiful. Long-haired dogs not only shed but they get hot under that coat in the summer. Did you know that they hide more parasites and even infections? Collies and huskies have a double coat for cold weather. I suggest that you not look for a breed but look for an individual that most closely matches the qualities you believe will mesh with your lifestyle. Shelter employees are a good source for estimating what breeds appear to have most strongly contributed to a specific dog there.
Three aspects to consider about a dog follow. Decide which is most important.
physical: weight, food requirements, exercise, health and coat.
temperament: emotional reactions to what causes fear or makes the dog happy
behavioral: tricks and commands the dog performs, habits of the dog
Here are some questions to ask yourself to narrow down what dog is right for you before you step foot into any shelter.
Do you want a dog that is consistently fired up?
Do you want a dog that plays with other dogs?
Do you want a dog content to sleep during the day?
Do you want a dog that can go the distance with you when jogging?
Do you want a dog that barks very little?
Do you want a dog that already knows commands?
Do you want a dog that likes kids?
Do you want a dog that wants lots of your attention?
Do you want a dog that is curious and mischievous?
Do you want a dog that is friendly to strangers or protective of you?
I don’t recommend that you bring home a dog that is very dominant or, at the other end of the personality spectrum, very submissive. A dominating dog may occasionally challenge authority and needs more solid corrections at these times. A submissive personality may be quite sensitive, especially if you are loud and vocal yourself. You know who you are! These meeker dogs are not likely to be highly protective of you and your home.
Classes of Dogs
Dogs are such interesting creatures. This is in large part because of their diverse natures.
Sporting dogs were bred to find, flush or fetch game and tend to take well to training. Scent hounds can’t seem to help but press their snouts to the ground and follow wherever the scent leads. Sight hounds are lanky and speedy dogs using their keen vision to spot prey. They usually have a rather quiet temperament. Working dogs were used mainly as protection and are good at focusing on the job you’ve trained them for. They are known for their intelligence and courage. Herding dogs have a similar work ethic with an added dose of energy. You’ve probably seen dogs that love to chase–if only they had a flock of sheep to herd and protect!
Terriers are smaller dogs with a bold attitude and short or wiry hair. They were trained and bred to hunt small ground-dwelling animals.
Toy dogs are the smallest dogs. They fit on your lap and make good company. There is a lot of energy as well as intelligence packed into their little bodies.
These distinctions should get you started on the general type that would be right for you. Ask the staff how long the dog you like has been there and how many hours of human contact he has had. If the staff has done formal temperament testing that is ideal. Be sure, at the least, the shelter has met the following basic medical needs before you adopt:
Has the dog been wormed?
Has his blood been checked for heartworm?
Have his ears and skin been checked for parasites and mites?
Some shelters spay and neuter, but not all. The shelter may not release a dog to a home that doesn’t meet high standards. They usually have very good reasons for this. Expect that they will ask a lot of questions of you too. Timing is also a factor in deciding to adopt. Don’t do it before or during a holiday season or vacation. Don’t do it at the start of a school year or during a stressful time in your life such as a divorce. You want to be happy so your dog can be relaxed too.
Have these items on hand for when you bring your lucky dog home: a crate, leash, collar for training, collar for wearing around the house, food and water bowls, food, grooming comb and brush, bed, pooper scooper and toys. Keep the attitude that your new dog will take time and effort on your part to adjust. Enjoy each other!

Exercises For Seniors

July 20th, 2009 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

Walking at a brisk pace is simply the single best exercise you can perform. If you are fifty years of age or older, it should be your activity of choice. To reach your goal of optimal health, resolve today to begin a regular program of walking, at a pace which will provide an excellent cardiovascular workout.
Before beginning any exercise routine, especially after age fifty, you would be wise to consult your physician. If there is anything on your chart that would call for caution, your doctor will so advise you. I am sixty five years of age and I enjoy brisk walking for one hour each day. I am careful not to exceed my maximum heart rate which is 155 beats per minute.
The target heart rate for me, for the greatest benefit, is seventy to eighty five percent of the maximum heart rate. That would be anywhere between 109 and 132 beats per minute. I maintain a rate of 120 beats per minute throughout my walk. You might not be able to exercise every day and you do not need to. If you are walking for 30 minutes three times a week or every other day that will be sufficient as long as you are training at a pace which will raise your pulse to the target rate for aerobic conditioning. If your heart rate is higher than the target for your age, slow down.
Taking your pulse as you walk is easy. Wear a watch and midway through your walk, stop for a few seconds to check your heart rate. This can be done by gently touching your neck or left wrist. When you feel the pulse, count the number of beats for a period of 10 seconds. Now multiply that by six. If for example you are 55 years of age and counted 22 heart beats in the 10 second time frame, your training heart rate is 132 beats per minute. That fits perfectly within the desirable range of seventy percent to eighty five percent of the maximum heart rate of 165 beats per minute.
Now you might be inclined to say you do not need to walk, you get enough exercise doing the household chores or walking to the car. Perhaps you play golf or go bowling. All of these activities are signs of life because while performing them, you are moving, but walking is different. Other exercises are good. Walking is great.
Here are just a few of the reasons for you to consider walking for health and well being. The degree of difficulty is low. You warm up and cool down by performing the exact same motion used during the walk, only you walk a little slower. It is a low intensity exercise with more time spent at a less strenuous level. You can do it alone or with friends. You can take your dog with you. During times of severe or inclement weather, you can move to an indoor track or mall.
Walking is basically an injury free activity, especially when compared to jogging. It is an excellent stress manager. No special skills are needed. No special equipment is required other than comfortable clothing and good walking shoes. Walking briskly provides an excellent cardiovascular workout. It develops muscle tone, endurance, strength and agility.
Walking out of doors amid pleasant surroundings gives you time and space to reflect. A good walk can lift you out of depressions, clear the mind, lift the spirit and even set the stage for problem solving later that day. You will lose fat, improve circulation, and expel waste matter through the lungs and skin. Increased intestinal motility results from the gentle swaying of the internal organs. Finally, walking fine tunes the metabolism, regulates the appetite, and increases your energy.
If you are between 50 and 100, a regular program of exercise can change your life and go a long way towards the prevention of diseases associated with aging. Why not get started this week? Speak to your doctor. Line up some comfortable clothing and break out those walking shoes. Aerobic walking is the best exercise, the best means, to eliminate or prevent sickness and suffering from your life, while extending your life expectancy.

Buying holiday insurance may seem like a pointless take however it could mean the difference between losing huge sums of money or being able to replace valuable items not to mention coving family members in the even of death or injury whilst travelling abroad.
Holiday insurance is also know and often referred to as travel medical insurance and can be obtained in a number of ways from many sources.

The most common way of purchasing travel insurance is from a travel agency this is because it can be added to the cost of the holiday or trip you are booking. If you are purchasing travel insurance from a travel agency make sure the cover suits you and your circumstances.

The Humble Inventor

July 20th, 2009 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

Some of the world’s greatest innovators are people you’ve never heard of. Everyone knows about Alexander Graham Bell (the telephone), Edward Jenner (vaccination) and the like. But there are a whole host of less obvious inventions that probably never even entered your invention radar – if you have such a thing.
Take toasters for example. Not quite as glamorous as TVs or telephones in the invention stakes, but important household appliances nonetheless. All hail the man who thought up a way to speed-cook two sides of piece of bread at the same time! And his name is Charles P. Strite. Ever heard of him? Precisely.
Quite comically, Charles was often reprimanded as a child for stealing loaves of bread from the school kitchen. But as I think you’ll agree, he’s repaid his debt to society in a very appropriate way.
Buttons then. The fastening of choice among European aristocracy during the Renaissance. And a true gem of an invention – simple to produce, functional and highly underrated as fashion accessories. Plus, if you lose a button, you’ll always be able to root around and find another one sewn into the same item of clothing somewhere. Where are they going to hide a whole spare zip in your shirt, eh?
But who invented buttons? Nobody knows is the answer to that. Why? Because whoever put together the definitive list of history’s best inventions was a toffee nosed button-hating bastard. Either that, or he was Amish.
Now one of my favourite ever inventions has got to be Lego. It’s an institution for God’s sake. So let’s give some credit to Ole Kirk Christiansen, master carpenter and creator of the coloured bricks that provide 5 billion hours worth of building fun every year. Now that’s what I call an invention.
Perhaps it would be a good idea if all new inventions were named after their designers. Then at the very least you would know that whoever invented buttons was called Mr Button, or Mrs Button for that matter. Or looking at it another way, Lego would be Christiansen bricks. Hmmm, let’s shelve that idea.
Just finally, I’d like to mention a pair of inventors. Introducing Monsieurs Jacques and Joseph Montgolfier, the brains behind one of the most important inventions ever known to man – the balloon. Without balloons, every party ever thrown would have been sadly bereft, partly because of the lack of colourful bouncy things to play games with, but mainly for another reason – how would anyone ever find the right house without the obligatory (slightly indecent) arrangement of inflatables to guide the way?
And if that wasn’t justification enough, balloons have been particularly influential in the world of science. Chemistry teachers and lecturers the world over have delighted for years in deafening their students by igniting hydrogen filled balloons in class. Whether this has actually inspired anyone to take up chemistry as a career, or simply resulted in several generations of hearing impaired chemistry graduates, I don’t know, but it’s certainly made an impact.
So here’s to the Montgolfier brothers and all those anonymous inventors who could never quite aspire to the dizzy heights of fame attained by Bell, Jenner and the rest. On behalf of a world that doesn’t know how lost it would be without buttons or toasters or balloons, not to mention Lego, we salute you.

The Truth About Plastic Surgery And Anti-Aging

July 20th, 2009 by · No Comments · Uncategorized

For many people, plastic surgery is a way to turn back the clock when it comes to their aging skin. Often this is a result of not paying enough attention or knowing how to care for their skin and body while they were younger.
Of course, the best medicine is preventative medicine, which recommends that a healthy diet, lots of water, moderate exercise, and a good organic skin care regimen all started at a young age.
However, not everybody was able, or knew to, do this when they were younger. Of these people, many turn to plastic surgery to correct their mistakes and anti age their faces.
In years gone by, plastic surgery consisted of one treatment or surgery at a time, meaning that women (and men) who needed to have several different things done to their face in order to achieve the look of youth that was desired had to undergo a number of surgeries and recuperation periods. This meant time off from work for many, making it take a long time to get to where they wanted to be where their looks were concerned.
Today, anti aging through plastic surgery does not necessarily mean multiple times under the blade. There are many surgeries that can be combined, so that one time of operation can result in many things being achieved at once. This is a great help to those who want several things done. Not only does it mean much less time off from work and less total recuperation time, but it means less expense because you only have to pay for anesthesia and other necessities one time, rather than once for each different procedure to be done.
One such combination is a combination laser resurfacing and face lift. Side effects are minimal when these two treatments are done in the same treatment and the procedures are well known for combating the effects of sun damage combined with the natural aging process. Both sun damage (also called photo aging) and the natural aging process often result in excessive skin and loose jowls, giving the appearance of a sagging face. The process which counters these effects in one treatment is actually the non invasive treatment, ablative laser surgery. Side effects of this treatment are very similar to the side effects of treatment by laser, which are minimal when compared to side effects from invasive surgery. The one side effect that may bother people and happens in about one in five cases is a discoloration that lasts for as long as four months.
Another plus for the combination is that heavy anesthesia is not required; a twilight anesthesia can be used through intravenous means. Again, this reduces the risk to patients. The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery has long recommended that patients not have multiple surgeries while under any anesthesia because of the health risk it poses so this treatment is getting rave reviews from the association because of its light anesthesia and short amount of time that patients need to be under the anesthesia.
The CO2 laser which is used for this procedure can be used in other ways, too. By utilizing this form of anti aging treatment, skin looks toned and smooth, creating a younger looking face. It is entirely possible for wrinkles and discoloration due to sun exposure to be removed without using this laser. Many people who have face lifts prefer to have the laser used on them intermittently to counteract aging processes between face lifts. This form of anti-aging seems to be getting a foothold throughout the world of plastic surgery.
If you are seriously considering any form of plastic surgery, you should always research the surgery you are interested in and find a derma logical surgeon (plastic surgeon) with considerable experience in the field. Keep in mind that not all of these surgeons are knowledgeable and experienced with CO2 lasers and careful consideration should be taken when deciding on the surgeon you choose.
One of the best ways to find a good surgeon is to talk to people who have had the procedure done. Find out how they liked the results, if there were any problems that required additional treatments and how comfortable they were with the surgeon. Also, ask if they will go back to that surgeon if they decide to have further treatments. You will find that some people prefer not to discuss it while others are more than willing to talk about it with you. Plastic surgery is so common today that most people don’t mind answering your questions.
